Netflix's Fishbowl Wives: Love Lessons from Japanese Married Couple

Netflix's Fishbowl Wives

Netflix’s Fishbowl Wives reveals unique lessons from a Japanese married couple on love and loyalty.

For anyone who has no idea about the story, Fishbowl Wives is a Netflix series that shows different married couples living in the same condominium with varying relationship problems.

The story focuses on married women's perspectives. Most of them end up having a secret relationship—an affair

What is Netflix's Fishbowl Wives

The story begins in a luxury condominium in Tokyo, where six different women, each in unhappy marriages, find themselves crossing the line into cheating. The central character is Sakura, a victim of domestic violence, who falls in love with Haruto, the owner of a fishbowl store.

This drama series is inspired by the manga series created by Kurosawa R.

Its Episode 4 Gives You Relationship Advice

The married couple I relate to the most are Sota and Saya. Why? Let me tell you about the relationship of this married couple.

Sota and his wife Saya used to go running together, but now she drinks all day and barely leaves the couch. In the first episode, Sota invites his wife to a birthday party. But Saya instead drinks and lies on the couch, has no social, and even no interest in being out of the room.

Is Saya an introvert? Not really. Let me tell you the flashback.

It's Not Just Running, It's Their Relationship

This married couple clearly struggles to reconnect their relationship. But everything has its reason. Sota and Saya are represented as the young and newly married couple among other married couples in this drama series.

Running used to be Saya's passion. She invited Sota to run together, and after that, Sota got better at running. One day, Saya was exhausted and couldn't take any more steps. Sota told her to go back while he continued running alone. She kept looking at him, leaving her behind.

Running is the beginning of a relationship problem, but it’s not why Saya gave up running and locked up with cans of beer.

[Spoiler alert] Instead, it's all about two words: TOGETHER and COMMUNICATION. When Sota bought the room at the highrise condominium, he aimed to earn more money and ordered Saya to quit her job. He plans the future without his wife's opinion, just like when he runs fast and leaves his wife behind.

It's almost too late when he realizes what is causing their relationship problems. Their married life almost ends when he realizes that running alone is so bleak.

"I think I was going a little too fast. I'm sorry. Let's run together." — Sota

"Honestly, I don't need to live in a tower condo. And money, I don't want a lot of it. I just want to be with you more. Even the marathon, I wanted to run it with you. And so, it was hard to say anything because you said it was all for me. I should've spoken up. I'm sorry, too." — Saya.

I love how the story compares physical running with a romantic relationship (for people still dating) or married life. We simply marry someone to get each other back anytime, like a friend, family, and, of course, partner.

Communication is a must for the relationship goal!

Are you married? Are you running away from the relationship problem because you have no idea how to fix it? If so, you must watch this episode of Netflix's Fishbowl Wives!

I highly recommend saving Netflix's Fishbowl Wives on your wishlist! Then, check out episode 4, The Chaperone Wife, and remember to come back and share your experience. Cheers!
